One early morning in June, I had the opportunity to join the all-staff meeting that seem to happen approximately every quarter after the board meeting. Morgen Garmon, Curator of Theater Collection, invited me to the meeting to learn more about the Museum. The meeting included seven topics.
The first presentation was about the Museum's strategic vision and announcements such as the change of the Museum's mission statement and the Museum's performance and budget analysis. It was presented by the President and Ronay Menschel Director, Whitney Donhauser.
The second presentation was on Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI), presented by two DEAI committee members at the Museum. In the presentation, it was announced that the Museum's DEAI committee started working with the outside organization PARCEO, Participatory Action Research Center, that provides resource and training to community-based organizations to work towards social justice.
Morgan Garmon told me that the DEAI committee at the Museum of the City of New York was just formed in April of this year, and it was mandated by the City. She also mentioned that approximately one person from each department is a member of the committee.
Going back to the report on the all-staff meeting, the third presentation was about health tips and recommendations for staff members. It was presented by the group leader of the Museum's wellness club. In the fourth presentation, a staff member from the IT Department presented how to use a newly implemented program, Microsoft Team.
Fifth, two Carnegie Mellon Foundation doctoral fellows each gave a presentation providing the context on the new exhibitions, Rebel Women: Defying Victorianism, True Womanhood in the 19th Century; and Germ City. These doctoral students are preparing these exhibitions as part of their dissertation.
Sixth, the Museum's newly accessioned items were introduced with slide images. Lastly, the HR and Operations Manager introduced a newly hired staff member. The meeting lasted approximately an hour and half.
